Screwing or unscrewing coupling on casing /tubing is one of important procedures in manufacture of oil casings/tubing. The tightly screwing extent must be accurately controlled to meet requirements of API or other special Standards.

Coupling Make-up Machine (also called as coupling application machine ) is just the dedicated machine to perform such operation procedure. Owing to excellent behaviors and low price than imported products from USA the machines are very salable. We have supplied approximately 200 sets to casing & tubing manufacturing enterprises in China. Now the machines have occupied 90 % domestic market share.

Nowadays China has become largest exporter of casing and tubing in the World. The connecting threads of the exported casing & tubing, besides API Standard threads, include such Standard threads as FOX, NK-3SB, VAM, SHC and other special enterprise standards.

Moreover the machines have been exported to such countries as Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, Dubai, Oman and USA (installed in Sino- USA joint venture in Tianjin, China), etc.

1. Features

1) Torque essentially depends upon tube size meeting requirements for various kinds of connecting threads.

2) Appropriate length of tongs teeth, hence minimizing damage to coupling.

3) Variation of r.p.m is controlled by microcomputer so as to meet requirements of special threads for very low rotation (0.3--1 r.p.m.).

4) Back tong is floating, thus preventing slight bend of tube from influence on screwing.

5) Clamping of back tong is realized by direct clamping method, instead of previous rotation clamping, further lightening teeth marking on tubes.

2. Tube Size

Applicable tube sizes range from Ð¤ 48.26mm (1.9″) to Ð¤508mm (20″).

3. Main Technical Parameters

3.1 Rotation Speed

Double-pump air-cooled power unit is adopted with stepless variable drive. Rotation speed of tong head is designed on two speed gears.

3.2 Torque

1) Torque value depends on tube size.

2) Torque of back tong can be read off torque meter.

3) Torques and turns can be read off microcomputer

4) Capacity: 60 pcs of tubes per hour can be finished under the circumstances of rest thread turns 3-5 after coupling is pre-screwed.

5) Operation method: Manual operation.

6) Teeth markings: Teeth markings are less than that stipulated in API in case that the screwing torque is in conformity to API.

4. Constitution

4.1 Main Tong

1) Close type tong head is utilized. A coupling is clamped by main tong without traveling with threads.

2) Main tong is hydraulically driven, being able to forward rotation or reverse rotation, and gear drive is designed at two gears.

3) The main tong is fixed with a connection used for counting numbers of rotation, being able to output a signal every 3° for instantaneous acquisition of turns and rotation speed (r.p.m)

4.2 Back Tong

1) The close type tong head is utilized. A tube is clamped by the tong head, the back tong traveling with threads.

2) The back tong is installed with a torque transmitter to correctly measure torque values while screwing or unscrewing.

3) The traveling of the back tong is driven by a pneumatic cylinder with a trip to max. 0.8m.

4.3 Control System

1) Forward rotation or reverse rotation of the main tong is controlled by a motor –driven hydraulic change-over valve.

2) Pneumatic cylinders for initial clamping force and traveling of back tong are all controlled by motor – driven pneumatic valves.

3) Flow rate is regulated with the hand wheels of two hydraulic pumps of the power unit

4) The machine is equipped with a microcomputer, being able to display, record and print values of torques and turns, as well as their variation curves..

5) Catching hold can be controlled through torque (minimum, optimum, maximum), or turn (minimum, optimum, maximum) respectively, or combination of the both, and displayed & recorded as well.

4.4 Power Unit

Two hydraulic pumps and one electric Motor as well as a pneumatic system are installed in the power unit.
